Changing your car's motor oil can be easily done by following a few simple steps. This would not only save you money but also time from taking your car to someone else for doing it. If you do not know when to change it, you should find it in your car’s owner manual.

The first thing you should always remember is not to try to change your car's motor oil unless the engine is cold. If you try to change the motor oil when the engine is hot, its oil would burn you. Besides this, it is also important that you use good oil since your engine’s well functioning might depend on it.

Once you make sure your car's engine is cold, then you are ready to change the motor oil. In order to do this, you should start by draining the old oil. Once you find the oil drain plug, you have to place a recipient right under it to receive the old oil.

After having successfully drained the old oil, you are ready to replace the oil filter. In order to do this, you must use an oil wrench filter, ideally a strap type one. Then, you must place the new oil filter being careful not to cross the threads while you do it. If you feel you can not turn the oil filter easily, then take it off without pushing it and try again.

The new filter should be screwed until it is in its correct position but without being too tight. If it is too tight, it will become an obstacle the next time you have to change it, and if it is not tight enough, it will let the oil come out. Therefore, it is very important that you pay special attention at this step and screw the filter at the correct point.

Once the oil filter is ready, then all you have to do is to add the new oil. To do this, you must first find the oil filler cap which is on the valve corner. Then, add the amount of oil which your car's owner manual indicates. Then, replace the oil filler cap and start the engine in order to check that everything is correct.
